I've wanted to attempt the Gateway style Carmel apples for 3 years now. My friend Steve is married to a very talented girl and she told me how to make them. You can visit her blog for more amazing recipes, including the Carmel apples HERE
This year I mentioned it to some of my girl friends and they helped me carry through with the idea. :)
Thanks Gals!
Before attempting it tho, I asked around for extra advice on making them. My bosses wife gave me some pointers all of which I'll share with you through out this post.
IT WAS FUN!
Almost like making ice cream Sundays once ya get going on the toppings. I think this is another tradition I'll carry on with my kids. Oh yeah! KIDS! I've decided I want more. Not right now but some day because I want to have a big family to always do fun things like this with.
Ok on with the Apples!
5 small things you should know before attempting Carmel Apples.
1st- If ya wanna go easy buy your Carmel. My boss's wife told me about a way cute store called Orson and Gygi. Check them out HERE.
3rd- DO NOT FORGET TO DO THE TEMPERATURE TEST! (Listed on "Theres a party in my mouth") I forgot and when I went to eat my apples all the Carmel fell right off and it was way to chewy. Yuck!
4th- Scrap the Carmel off the bottom of your apples or they'll be a pain to pull back off the wax paper.
5th- WATCH YOUR CHOCOLATES! I burned the milk chocolate twice.
It was a mad house because we had the kids with us. They had fun running and playing. I LOVE that my friends have kids X and Freds age. It makes get together so fun! X was having to much fun to decorate an apple so after every body left I heated up some more chocolate and let him and Freddie go at it.
The clean up was interesting. Took me awhile to scrap all the chocolate and Carmel out of the pans. It was worth it tho to have a fun night with friends. The night ended with X sending his friends home with a pumpkin from his pumpkin patch.
Thanks Gals for making my Carmel apple dream happen! :)
